Club Happenings

Weekend Scrabble

Several club members get together for a game or more at the outdoor patio of Central Market (40th and Lamar Blvd. in Austin). Lately we've been meeting on Sundays* from about 2:00pm to 5:30pm. This is not a regular club meeting, but it's still somewhat organized; although the games are unofficial. If you're interesting in joining us, just stop by. The Scrabble is free, but you are welcome to purchase food and/or drinks from Central Market.

* Except for holiday weekends, inclement weather, or during regional Scrabble tournaments. To confirm whether anyone will be there on a given Sunday, or for more information, contact our club director, Caesar Jaramillo.

Club Tournament

The Austin club will be having a NSA-rated* club tournament during Spring, 2001, celebrating the 17th Anniversary of the club's existence. The tournament is free to Austin club members.

* Note: NSA rating change calculations for club tournaments are 1/3 that of regular tournaments.

Format: three divisions, with inter-divisional play. A total of 10 games will be played over four Monday nights and three Sundays.

Schedule: not everyone will be on the same schedule; so once your 10 games are completed, the tournament is over for you (and your successive games will be counted as club games (on Mondays) or unofficial games (on Sundays).

Sunday 4/29 @ Central Market starting at 2pm: 3-4 games
Monday 4/30 @ Rec Center starting at 6:45pm: 3 games
Sunday 5/6 @ Central Market starting at 2pm: 3-4 games
Monday 5/7 @ Rec Center starting at 6:45pm: 3 games
Sunday 5/13: no games
Monday 5/14 @ Rec Center starting at 6:45pm: 3 games
Sunday 5/20 @ Central Market starting at 2pm: 3-4 games
Monday 5/21 @ Rec Center starting at 6:45pm: 3 games, plus award ceremony

Prizes: top three in each division will be crowned. Small monetary cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. There will also be prizes for overall high game and high turn.

Ratings fees and prizes will come from club funds. Expired and new memberships to the National Scrabble Association will be covered by club funds also. New members should take advantage of this.
